  1. "He looked a great deal as his compatriot must have looked when he saw the promised land. Cohn, of course, was much younger. But he had that look of eager, deserving expectation."(Chapter 3)---Other People's Opinions---From this description, Cohn is captivated by Brett, which shows me that Brett is very pretty.

"She was sitting up now. My arm was around her and she was leaning back against me, and we were quite calm. She was looking into my eyes with that way she had of looking that made you wonder whether she really saw out of her own eyes. They would look on and on after every one else's eyes in the world would have stopped looking."(Chapter 4)---Action---From this description, I can see that Brett really loves Jacob Barnes, but it seems that something is getting in the way to make them cannot be together, so she just can look at him.

"Don't talk about it. Poor chap. I never knew it till just now."(Chapter 3)---Speech---From this speech, we can see that Brett doesn't care abouot Cohn.

  2. “Robert Cohn was a member, through his father, of one of the richest Jewish families in New York, and through his mother of one of the oldes”(P4)The background tells me that he was born in very good family background. His family is one of the wealthiest Jews.
“He cared nothing gor boxing, in fact he dislike it, but he learned it painfully and thoroughly to counteract the feeling of inferiority and shyness he had felt on being treated as a Jew at Princeton.”(P3) This information tells me that although he did not like boxing, but he continued practicing, that as a Jew in the U.S. is looked down upon. So he need to exercise their bodies to make themselves stronger, in order not to be bullied.
“I never met anyone of his class who remembered him. They did not even remember that he was middleweight boxing champion.”(P3) Shows that he is likely to be forgotten.

Her life-work lay in the pelouse, but she kept an eye on the people of the pesage, and she took great pride in telling me which of my guests were well brought up, which were of good family, who were sportsmen, a French word pronounced with the accent on the men.” Action(chapter 7)

But he had that look of eager, deserving expectation.(chapter3)--other's people thoughts--From the expressiom of Robert Cohn we knew that Brett is such a beautiful lady, the writers did not describe Brett at all. Speech:
    "Don't touch me,"she said."Please don't touch me.""What's the matter?""I can't stand it.""Oh,Brett.""You mustn't. You must know.I can't stand it, that's all.Oh,darling,please understand!""Don't you love me?""Love you? 9. sorry, Last time I sent the job was wrong.
    Roes

“Brett was damned good-looking. she wore a slipover jersey sweater and a tweed skirt, and her hair was brushed back like a boy's. She started all that. She was built with curves like the hull of a racing yacht, and you missed none of it with that wool jersey.” (Pg 19) Describe the details of the characters from this point of view, she is a woman in great shape, but also very beautiful. But hair looks like a boy. I think the author is describing a character who is very delicate.
"She was sitting uo now. My arm around her and she was leaning back against me, and we wre quite calm. She was looking into my eyes with that way she had of looking that made you wonder wherther she really saw out of her own eyes." (Pg 23) From this point of view the description of action and expression, both of whom are actually in love. But for some reason they did not together. Of the author description, which allows the reader to feel the delicate relationship between the characters.
"'It's funny,'I said. 'It's very funny. And it's a lot of fun, too, to be in love.'
'Do you think so?' Her eyes looked flat again.
'I don't mean fun that way. In a way it's an enjoyable feeling.'
    ......
'I have to.'" We were sitting now like two strangers. On the right was the Prc Montsouris.(Pg 23-24) From their conversation, the reader can know that while they are in love, but they had to be separated. They are like two strangers in conversation. Very cold, no emotion

  10. Lady brett had met jake soon enough and was being a temptress until she found out that he could not work properly in sex. "Our lips were tight together and then she turned away and pressed against the corner of the seat, as far away as she could get. Her head was down. "Don't touch me," she said. "Please don't touch me." "Whats the matter?" "I cant stand it." (33) she did not want anything to do with jake because she was a shallow girl that is only interested in the fleshy desires. I consider a horrible person.

Last night I formed another idea of her. But listen to what I tell you. She is tres, tres gentille. She is of very good family. It is a thing you can see.
