Please post your responses to John Taylor Gatto's "7-Lesson School Teacher." What did you think about it? Can you relate this article to your experience at Knox? What classroom practices would you like to see changed to create a optimal learning environment?
i think the article was intersting but too long.basıcly he says the stuff we alredy know about but don't think about it.It is the way it is. we wait for somebody else to say us what we suppose to do or not. we have freedoms that we can't use ın school because that can make the teacher seems lıke he has no outhority what so ever.I can say that we have some of the same stuff he was talking about in Knox.I think if we can talk our mind that can make a difference in the classroom. We should have a right to decide what we want to do or not , if we can do that i think things can get easier.people will enjoy what are they doing.
ReplyDeleteThe seven lesson is awesome, it is an easier way to help students to overcome the difficulties that they met in school. Yes, it is related to Knox, specially for the new students getting familiar, he answered most of the questions about school life. I think Knox's learning environment is well-done, I do not think we have to make change if we keep doing well.
ReplyDelete(ps; we don't have #word limit, right? )
The author taught his students seven lessons. He taught them how to accept confusion as your destiny, how to stay in your right position, try to become independent person, be good behavior in school, think and listen to other's suggestions before you doing things, your self-respect should depend on expert opinion and we can't hide ourselves, there's always an eye on you.I think Knox School in someway is also teaching us to become an independent, confident, honest and person who can work together with others. I like the classroom practices now but maybe make more discussion during the class.
ReplyDeleteThis article is interesting. Everything has two sides, especially in this kind of learning environment, the advance is that students are more independent, they have more time to do what they want to do, in other words, students in this environment would be more freedom to spend their time. It is more effective to study. However, the disadvantage is that this environment may make the gap between eugenics and poor student. Not all the students work hard, if the poor students have more free time do study, they may be spend these time on other things, which means they will waste their time.
ReplyDeleteI think the seven lesson is a historical process, time can change that state. But with the power which is not feasible. Undeniably this is an excellent article. The problem of the educational system continue. The author also think children should maintain a balance between home and school, parents and teachers in the lessons of self-motivation, perseverance, self-reliance, courage, dignity. I love this piece. I hope this piece can induce the society's opinion, make the education reform. I think the knox school of learning environment is similar with the environment set up in book, but the knox school with the emphasis on independent learning and thought this is not the same. I think the good learning environment encourage students to speak. In the class, there is no clear right and wrong, as long as he can prove that they said is correct, is feasible.
ReplyDeleteIn this article, John Taylor Gatto, shares with us seven school lessons that opens our minds into the world of school teaching. The seven themes; confusion, class position, indifference, emotional dependency, intellectual dependency, provisional self esteem and one cant hide, are life lessons that students would keep for a lifetime. These lessons have a different emphsis than regular lessons. My experience at knox is just starting but I am willing to create this optimal learning environment in which fears are left out and we accept other points of views. Students are creating barriers with learning due to the fear that they feel and become the same as everyone else. In the school life we must be able to be confident about ourselfs, know who we really are and also have dependency as Mr. Gatto says, one cant hide. School systems are no one to judge others peoples opinions and beliefs.
ReplyDeleteI like the opinion of John Taylor about everything in life is like the great natural sequences. The “I” in the article is really a good teacher. The things he taught the students are all about how to live as a real man and to live better. He taught them how to face the real person inside, to accept the current situation and do feel harmony about that. He encouraged them to face the challenges like exams, making them get interested in the boring school work. He taught them to live a real life, to see the reality and not care about anything too much. He showed how important is the intellectual dependency is that almost everything link to that and one cannot live a good life without knowledge. At the same time, he thinks that one must have emotional dependency so he can feel that is a real person vividly. Last but not least, he taught them learn to self-evaluate. People around are easy to affect someone by word, actions or even a little expression. Self-evaluation makes one know clearly who he is, what he want.
ReplyDeleteAt Knox, I was in the softball team last year. As the position of the second base, the fly balls come to me time to time. There was one day, we were warming up right before a home game, I was right standing on my position. The catcher threw an extremely fast and high fly ball up and I step backward to get prepared for that ball, as always. There was no cloud at all that day and the sun was too bright that I couldn’t see the ball. I put my glove in front of my forehead and due to the experience of catching a fly ball, I was sure that the ball was going to get in it as what happens to me every time I went to get it. But it didn’t happen that day. All I heard was a huge “Bang~!” and I couldn’t see anything. The dangerous ball hit right in the middle of my forehead. That was a lesson about never be too sure about something when you even cannot see is exactly and never be over confident.
Easy and relax. Feel free to talk about the topics.
i feel the imotional dependence is the one i like it the most. it really works to student. it will make student and teacher stand on the same side.and also the first one, when teacher talk about something that is not in the text book always make the class more fun, and also learn some knowledge outside from the textbook.
ReplyDeleteI think the author read my mind.I always believe that school is the best place for studying.Actually, education is controlled by different governments in different countries.School will instil some destructive thoughts into students' mind. All of the teachers and students have no choice,we are supposed to accept them and spread abroad.Absolutely,he list all of the most important elements of studying at your school and scribe what he did before. At the same time, he gives his useful advice.
ReplyDeleteAt Knox,I always be led to follow the core value of Knox.Of course I experience many of fresh elements which are obvious differences between China and America, for example, like the equality of education and the equality of mentors and disciples.
On some ways,I have been feeling fresh because I just come here for half a year and I had a bouncy teacher Ms Faigen before. So far I am satisfied of my learning environment now and it is enjoyable.I don't have any idea for classroom practices yet.May we can talk about it in the future.
I think the article is succinct and perspicuous, because it recapitulates the most popular problems of the campus. The author teaches the students how to be better and better in the school, and makes sure you will not lose yourself when you get the questions or any difficult things to do. Actually I think the Knox is fine, because the teachers will help us when we are confused. Especially every student has their advisor and they will try their best to help you. Students have to help each other and get more confidence to do whatever you want if u think it is correct. There is no exactly correct or wrong things in the school, convince people that you do correctly by you reasons.
ReplyDeleteThis article is a good stuff for both teachers and students. The author talks about something that near our lives. He teaches us how to deal with some condition that often happened, how to keep our mind and how are the rights that children have. We should be a independent student, honest and confident. This is also what Knox School wants us to be. I think we need have more discussing, lots of quizzes are not a good idea to create a optimal learning environment.
ReplyDeleteI think its something that deserves to be recognized for a better understanding on how you control order to society. Certain people dont't realize these types of possibilities, and it is a good example of how to think outside the box if you want to be extremely successful with something. I can relate to experiences at Knox because the examples that were given to us in the article tell us that every school does it in its own way, and Knox does it from the get-go with uniforms, and a code that deserves respect. I think indifference would be one to change anything about should anything be changed at all. If a child does not re act to this the right way the 7 lesson schoolteacher article should be introduced to understand fully why the schooling system is such an important piece to your future and our country.
ReplyDeleteI believe that this school teacher has been through many ordeals while teaching. During his many years of teaching in different schools he has learnt to manipulate his students using many methods. This teacher is very insightful towards his students behaviors which helps the styles that he uses.
ReplyDeleteGatto's analyation of school is very amusing. The methods that he uses in the classroom are agreable, although I do not think that writing numbers on the students is necessary. Gatto keeps his students in an orderly mannner using a robotic structure. He has great knowledge and experience in the classroom.
ReplyDeleteThis article written by John Taylor Gatto tells us about different lessons he teaches all his students. He teaches his students important life lessons in order for them to do better in school and in life. I think the most important lesson of all was when he was talking about raising ones self esteem. For me when ever i get chosen to share my work to the class I always think its not good enough so i turn down the offer. Im scared of what other people have to think about my work. Though reading this article by John Taylor Gatto teaches me to be proud of my work although my fear of other's opinions isn't gonna pass by me so quickly.

ReplyDelete"I don't teach English, I teach school.“ This is my favorite sentence in the whole article. That kind of teacher reminds me of Clément Mathieu in Les Choristes. But anywhere, this kind of teachers who can teach without bondage of Education System are very rare now. At the same time, students like us lost the natural curiosity to chase the answer-no matter how stupid the question is. Everyone has a proper place for him or her. I believe that is right for me. I think to find the right place you need to follow your interests rather than be a sequacious student. At the same time, it is a issue which is pertinent to independence. Sometimes I wanna to be a crabbed person, because I thought that was individuality. Later I learn from my lesson, that was stupid. As for today,I know why I can learnt from my lesson and changed my attitude. It was my own mood leaded me to the right way.
The article used too many complicated words and made me so confused.Even though, i have accomplished reading it.
ReplyDeleteThe 7 classes the writer taught was step by step and helped his student to dig out their best potential in studying. What impressed me most was the first paragraph "confusion". As a outstanding student ,who should not really agree with the opinions from the text book. Instead of being that, he/she must be creative in learning. I think that is the best way to obtain knowledge.
What's more, Knox does well on "one can't hide". Every parent can go to the Edline to check their child's assignment and tests. There will be no secrets between two generation.
On the other hand, i concern that sometimes we students also have the right to own privacy no matter whether we "want to keep a society under tight central control."
I really like the article the author write and agree with that. It’s gives me deep impression and a learned a lot from that.
ReplyDeleteThe firstly opinion first lesson is confusion. I’m be here with author. Like I went to knox in January this year. That time, all the thing to me is fresh and exciting. In the same time, it’s very confusing to me, I have no idea what should I to do and which classes here is suitable for me. I need to learn! For teachers, they are also not familiar with new students. They should be know us and find which to teach is best. Cause I think more and more practice may approach perfect. Like class position, like teachers need to know what kinds of students they are. And they can find a unique way to teach each their kids. The each of students are definitely private individual.
As far as I’m considered, optimal learning environment is like we all students can learn together and share our ideas. Teachers are well-organized and creating. We are all here, not only teaching, but also learning from each other when we hang out or talk with classmates and teachers.
As far as I am concerned, learning how to accept confusion at my destiny is a certainly important thing. The things we learned in school sometimes are really useless when we face the realistic. Nevertheless, our modern society is extremely competitively, and if we do not have the knowledge learned in school, we would feel extraordinarily confused when we face the competitive world. I am a new student in Knox, and I felt confused when I faced the unfamiliar environment and a brand new day. Nonetheless, with my intellectual dependency on teacher, corporation with my classmates and my self-confidence, I will achieve my goal in the future.
ReplyDeleteThe article written by John Taylor Gatto mainly talks about fundamental things that students need to learn in their life. It was quite interesting because most of schoolteachers teach student what they have to learn in order to achieve good grades or what they willing to do in the future. However, in the article it talks about the seven lesson that he taught to his students and I think it is the most fundamental but most needed thing that we should learn. I think he knows very well about the students and I've learned many things in the article. What I really liked about this article is "Emotional dependency", "Provisional Self-Esteem" and "One Can't hide".
ReplyDeleteThe article was so long, but its really useful. The author list most useful advice to everyone. I think in every class teacher sometimes needs to talk about something fun stuff that not in the textbook, can be something new something fun something in the future.

ReplyDeleteBeside any hard subjects such as math, science, and English, i think Mr.Gatto's 7 lesson, confusion, class position, indifference, emotional dependency, intellectual dependency, provisional self esteem and one cant hide, must be first thing that we need to learn. As we know that to build a hard building we must make the bottom part strong so the all building will not collapsed, we should make student get all that 7 fundamental things, so they can overcome whatever academic problem they will experience.
(I posted this on my own blog yesterday on accident instead of in the comments)
ReplyDeleteI felt that, John Taylor Gatto's 7-Lesson School Teacher was very insightful, I expecailly liked the quote he made about confusion,"I teach you how to accept confusion as your destiny" I thought this was very insightful, because it seems every aspect of life, and everything in life is confusing at times , and that you just have to accept it in order move foward. Also I thought that The section about the Class position, expecially the quote "And based on what class we are put in their is no way of getting out". was very interesting because, I really thought it relates right now to my own life ,being the new kid in school today I was able to view the social system from the "outside". I've been in public school for 12 years and there I felt that I belonged with my set friends and we knew better then to talk to the people in the pyramid above us.And I noticed myself today, at the Knox that though their are such small numbers, the cliques and the order still remains. In addition, The Changes I would personally like to see changed in the classroom, is probably impossiable, but I would like to be in a class room and learn, where there is no social order, just see how it would effect the class, I think that more people would be willing to share ideas, and be more open to their creative side and not deny themselves of that ,because they were afraid of what the others would think. Also I think a classroom within reason should allow the students more freedom of speech, not to say that prefound launguage is acceptable, but I think students should have the right to tell a teacher if they disagree with with there opinion. Also I think the right to freedom should be allowed ,that students should go to the bathroom or to get a glass of water for the fountain on their own , without permisson because I feel as if when teachers deny the students of these things its more of a power struggle, then the fact that they don't want the student to go about there buisness.

ReplyDeleteThis passage mainly talked about the author's seven lessons, although most of them are ironically, but I think the self-esteem part is quite important, a student could do nothing if he is not a self-esteem person. Now, parents send their children to a school is for good education and create a good personality, but if the school asked the teacher to do these seven lessons, then parents' main purpose can not come true. This is what the author really don't want to see. My idea is that he suggest students do learning after school by their selves, not by the homework, so a student can b interested in it, and the effect can be much better than just do homework. And a student should try the best to do everything and keep it until it's finished. Also, emotional dependency and intellecual independency are also very imortant. The last point: One can't hide is a really good point, it told students to do things under their control so they will consider more before they do it. These points are all I want to say, and another thing is that I tried three times to do this comment today, but always failed after I typed all my comments.
Well, I cannot find the new blog article about the quest of the golden fleece, so I just post my response here.
ReplyDeleteBy looking at the beginning of the Quest of The Golden Fleece, I thought it will be a great story and attractive for me, but the ending is not the right ending which it should has. Before, Jason discarded Medea, he was the rightful ruler for that kingdom in Greece. But the way he get The Golden Fleece is totally wrong, He used Medea to approach his goal, that led the tragedy exist. He is not qualified of becoming the King.
The plot is great, except of the ending.
The Quest of the Golden Fleece was a breathtaking story but also a sad love story.
ReplyDeleteThe beginning of the adventure was the Greek King's second wife indirectly killed Athamas's child, Phrixus. In fact , Ino had an elaborate plan to do this. The son of Phrixus's uncle, Jason was the rightful heir to the kingdom. But Pelias, was told that he would die at the hands of kinsmen. And the kinmen inferred to Jason. Being afraid of dying ,Pelias told Jason that as long as he brought back the Golden Fleece he would give up the kingdom.
So, Jason started his adventure. To support him, many noblest and the best came.Hera helped Jason a lot.
The first destination of the adventure was Lemnos where only women lived, except an old king, whose daughter was Hypsipyle.Jason and his companions were safe there.
The second destination was with Harpies where met an old man who was a truth-teller.He gave them some wise advice.
After meeting with the Amazons, they eventually reached Colchis, the country of the Golden Fleece.
Considering of the danger Jason would faced, Hera asked Aphrodite, the goddes of love, for help. They thought that the daughter of the Colchian King, Medea could help Jason going through the danger safely. Cupid drew his bow and shot a shaft deep into Medea's heart. They fell in love with each other without doubt."Nothing except death will come between us."This sentence was between the lovers. And they finally succeeded to get the Golden Fleece.
The next story was too pathos. I hate Jason. He became a traitor to Medea who saved him in the journey to get the Golden Fleece. He made the Medea and their children exile. At the end of the story, Medea died .
Hi~Mr. Guthrie, I couldn't find an article about The quest of the golden fleece, so I can just post my response here.
ReplyDeleteThe Quest of The Golden Fleece talks about how Jason get the golden fleece from another king. It's a difficult trip while he's getting the golden fleece. I think the Golden Fleece symbolized the pursuit of the goal for the precious things. Jason was also symbolized victors, when he was trying to get the golden fleece, Medea helped him and the only claim for that is after Jason gets the Golden Fleece, he needs to marry with her. At first he promised her. But after he got the Golden Fleece, he change his mind and fall in love with another woman. When people getting power, they become changeable and being mean. At the end of the story, Medea became frenzy, she start killed her sons, the woman Jason going to married and Jason's father. This story is interesting and philosophical.
The Golden Fleece is pursuid by Jason in exchange of any labor he could performance to the king, who he should proof how brave he was. Jason was supposed to die, but, the king's daughter, Medea, ustes some kind of magic for helping him recieve the fleece. Jason and Medea move to Corinth and have children but the truth is that he only used Medea as a tool for accesing the fleece, and ends up marrying the princess of Corinth. This makes the story more interesting due to the tragedy and the tricks added on the plot. The story ending turned out to be an unexpected catastrophy.
ReplyDeletefor golden fleece--
ReplyDeleteı think this story is really interesting in a way.first of all sacrificing the poor ram and giving the golden fleece to the king is wrong.the ram saved his life and he sacrificed the poor thing. In the story both of the kings thinks that Jason cant get the golden fleece but he proves them all wrong.he wouldnt do any of that things without the help of Medea.I feel sorry for her she left his country and betrayed his people because she loved him and in the end he left her to marry wıth and other girl for gettin more power and it cost alot of lifes.medea went crazy and killed the bride and her 2 sons .İ thınk this story tells us that man are not be trusted because we love them and we shouldnt do things that we ll regret for love
(I cannot find the new article that I can post the response, so I post it here.)
ReplyDeleteThe Quest of Golden Fleece is really a famous story and also a great one at the same time. Here I would like to talk about Jason and Medea. Yes, Jason is a good looking brave heroic man who seems graceful, at least in the eye of Medea. But without the help of Medea, he could never reach his final goal at all. To conquer the bulls, cast the dragon’s teeth, killing the armed men that grew from the soil… Jason is not that powerful originally. Medea is a beautiful women who devoted her whole her soul and body to Jason. She tired her best to help Jason. She was always the one that taking Jason into consideration all the time, before he betrayed her. After being betrayed by Jason, Medea collapsed mentally. She was so in love with Jason that she could not believe he betrayed her. But then her strongest love turn to another extreme. How much hate doest it need to kill one’s own kids, the best gift from God, the most lovely creature to every mom? How much pain of being betrayed was that Medea brought much more pain to herself by her own hands? Jason did done great job, but that was not either by his own ability. His intrinsic quality was twisty after being regarded as the great hero.
This is the title of a poem by Apollonius of Rhodes who lived in the third-century AD. He tells the whole story of Quest except the part about Jason and Pelias which have taken from Pindar. This story is mainly about how Jason was the rightful ruler of a kingdom in Greece. He asked his nephew to give him the kingdom back, and his nephew said he would if he would bring back the Golden Fleece. Jason encounters many trials and adventures on his journey .Every heroes came with him in the search golden fleece but all the heroes who went with him ended up suffering greatly. He also meets Medea. Medea helps him overcome the greatest perils of his journey along with Hera's help. Jason gets the Golden Fleece, and then heads home with Medea and the Argonauts. When he reaches home, he has some children with Medea, but decides to marry another wife. This makes Medea mad and she is exiled. Jason said he knew that she loved him and was basically using her. Medea then kills off Jason's wife, kids, and then flies away before Jason can get revenge on her.
ReplyDeleteI have tried again, and luckily Blogger seems to have cooperated.
ReplyDeleteThe Quest of the Golden Fleece takes some twisty turns, I noticed. Firstly, while I am an animal lover, reading Greek mythology has taught me that it doesn't always make sense--and it doesn't have to, either. I disliked when Phrixus sacrificed the ram, his savior, although I'm sure he could think of no greater way to thank Zeus profusely for saving his life. Another thing I noticed was that I could tell the differences between the authors. Most of the story was written by Apollonius of Rhodes, according to the introduction. This part of the story, oddly enough considering it had been written in the third century AD/CE, seemed as if it had been written today. Most likely this is due to the translation, but I'm not entirely sure. When it got to the part about Jason and Pelias, it seemed to sound more like it had been written in its appropriate time period. Something I had not expected was Jason's betrayal to Medea, for while he was not struck by Cupid's arrow, he seemed to genuinely be enamored with as well as eternally grateful to her. She also made one of the hardest decisions a mother could possibly make; to bring about the death of her own children. However, it was done out of love for them, and for their safety. I can also say I believe Jason got what he deserved with the death of his second wife, and when he saw Medea escaping at the end.

ReplyDeleteThe story is really interesting and fun.The beginning of the story was his first wife, Nephele was afraid of her two children being killed by Ino, the soon-to-be second wife. Nephele, herself, was killed by the king, and Athamas subsequently married his second wife, Princess Ino.The first destination was Jason and the Argonauts first sailed to Lemnos, an island where only women lived. Then ehe Harpies were flying creatures with hooked beaks and claws who left an awful odour whenever they go. The next morning the Argonaut sailed off with a dove to the Clashing Rocks. At the end of story Medea knew that the deed was done, she turned her mind to one more dreadful task. This task was far more dreadful, for she was going to kill her own two sons. She did so, but not without feeling sorrow for what she had done. But when Jason realized Medea had killed her bride, he was determined to kill Medea.
When I saw the title of the legend, I thought it would be an interesting adventure. At the begining of the the adventure, I felt Jason was brave and didn't afraid of anything, nevertheless, later I found Jason was always saved by Hera and other gods.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it was the begining of the tragedy when Cupid shot a shaft deep into the Madien's heart. Medea sacrificed nearly everything for Jason. But guess what? Jason betraied her and even cursed her.
Who was the cause of the Medea's ruin on earth?

ReplyDeleteI think this story is so ridiculuous because it's about impossible think. Medea was a stupid girl she left her countrty and her family for one guy who betrayed her after they got married. She murdered her 2 sons because of Jason. She become crazy. This story tells us we shouldn't trust anyone even our husband.

ReplyDeleteThe story is talking about how Jason got tge golden fleece. All things are dificult before they are easy, but things usually will get easier when we put energy into it. Also affection between Jason and Medea has been perfectly shown to us. The story is intricately in Jason and Medea, and the quest of Golden Fleece. At the end of the story, Jason betrayed Medea. I do not know who make things like that, because Medea has paid as much as she can to Jason. However, the things are unsatisfactory.
It is a funny story about Jason and Medea. This is a diffcult trip for anyone to get the gold fleece. But Jason decide to challenge this in order to regain his throne. Actually it looks like a impossible thing that a lot of people even don’t see what golden fleece is they have died. It will be more easier that kill his uncle directly, however he make a decision that he accept his uncle’s suggestion because he dosen’t how hard it is. Finally, he get over all of the problems and challenges he meet and get the gold fleece successfully. Unfortunately, his uncle break his promise and Jason even don’t have any ideas to deal with. At the that time, Medea help his lover kill his uncle. I am not pay attention to the result of this story but focus on the process, this is a good example to show how you can get your new life. This story advise that focus of pursuit and strong will、spirit of adventure.

ReplyDeleteActually this legend shows us that ( not this legend all of the legends) point of view humans to nature in that years. We can see amazing creatures in that legend and I think that shows us how much difficult to overcome hardships of the nature in that times without technology. In all legends the common points are almost same. Relationship between male and female, amazing creatures, how difficult the journey is, desire to see new places and fight for expedience. All of these things will not end forever. That is the reason why the mythology is immortal.
Note: I don't know why my name seems yörük but I'm Uğur Büyükdurak !!
This story is impreesive to me, because the ending of the story was shocked me.
ReplyDeleteThis story mainly talks bout Jason seeking the Golden Fleece in the risk of danger voyage, the idea of the great adventure was delightful to Jason, but he agreed. At the begining I was so soluted Jason that he was so brave, however, during his exploration, I was so disappointed that Jason was not a respectful man,in the Lemnos, the Argonauts and Hercules was fight for him, but he did not care and fall in love with Hylas. He even played with Medea's mind that He was using her in order to help him to get the Golden Fleece. Therefore, the result was tragic that Medea had killed Jason's wife.
In my point of view, people should strengthen their self-discipline and don't be immoral.
This is a interesting story which talks about how Jason got golden fleece and then changed his mind. Trobles are inevitable in people‘s life. At the beginning of the story, Jason shows his brave to us,but a brave man still need help. Medea helped him to get his goal, and he promised to marry her after that. But Jason broke the promise right after he got the golden fleece. That made Medea start killing her sons. That’s kind of crazy.
ReplyDeleteThis is true that some people become changeable after he got his goal. They will be powerful and have confidence on everything. But,how is the ending?
The Quest For the Golden Fleece
ReplyDeleteThe most interesting part that really moves the plot foward the whole time, is the fact that cupid had stabbed Princess Medea’s heart so that she would fall in love with Jason. The Irony of this situation, is that becuase of this spell she has learned to love a stranger but in the process she lies to her father, and she kills her own brother in order for Jason to survive. But what didn’t make sence was, Once Medea’s Brother dies the army is disheveled and can’t fight without their leader. I found this weird ,becuse don’t people die in war all the time, and wouldn’t the army want revenge on the killer of their leader? In addition in the end of the story, Jason turns on Medea, who had helped him to become a hero and who she had killed her own brother for. And in the end all Jason does for Medea is give her gold and supplys while she lived in Exile, which she won’t except! And because of this whole story in the end Medea’s family is dead, and she kills her own children that way they will not become slaves. And Jason gets the fleet.

ReplyDeleteThe Quest of the Golden Fleece. Good name. I guess there would be a lot of metaphors about the Golden Fleece. I notice the different way the second wife wanted to kill the other's son. She completely use the agriculture to let the people forced the King to permit the boy's death. I've never read such a paragraph before. But I have to say this is very brilliant due to the importance of agriculture.
What is love? And how dose a loving people feel? It burned there like a flame and people's souls melted with sweet pain. love is unfair. at the same time, love is fair to everyone. Medea was the one who first fell in love with Jason. I do no think Jason love Medea so deeply as Medea did. He just response to her and love her back. I have to say men and women treat love incredibly different. In the last, Medea killed the bride and was died without the love of Jason. She never gain and never lost. But to me, she was the one who finally got the Golden Fleece for her brave love.
I'm Alice.
ReplyDeletei think this story is very tragedy and ridiculs.it's a love and policy story, but do not have happy ending.I hate Jason, but it's not all his fault.the badest persom is Here.this story tells not only human are greedy, but also the gods. there are not that kind of perfect and nice as i imagine.it's just crazy for Jason wants to get more power and use of Medea.but at the end of story, Medea dead.To my surprise,Jason even wants to curse her!
It's just unbelievable!
the Story of the Golden fleece is pretty sad itself. Its shows all the faults of man and some even of the gods as well. The different emotions prorated seemed a little extreme, but I thats how things went down in old Greece.

ReplyDeleteThe Quest Of The Golden Fleece is a very interesting legend. The story is speak the Golden Fleece, and all of the stories were triggered by this golden fleece. One is the story of the Golden Fleece Jason outsmart, Jason is a warrior, he is very smart, taking his success to the golden fleece. Medea helped him, but which, in the Medea help them overcome difficulties to get the golden fleece. I think that if Medea did not help him, Jason could not get to be so soon, or simply can not get the Golden Fleece. Finally, the story Medea and Jason married.
This story told me: the Golden Fleece is not only a symbol of wealth, but also a symbol of adventure and an indomitable will, a symbol of the ideals and the pursuit of happiness.
The story, 'The Quest Of The Golden Fleece', which is one of most famous story in Greek mythology can be a turning point in Greek mythology. Before this story, Greek mythology was focused on Olympus 12 god about what they did to human, adventure that they experienced. But since The Quest Of the Golden Fleece', Greek mythology started to focus on half human half god's, or human hero's story.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very intersting story. The story describe a kind of hero who named Jason. He start a danger trip in order to regain his throne.Actually he get a lot of helpness from different people who own the talent. Finally,he get the golden fleece after get over many of diffcults, but his uncle break his promise and he even doesn't have any idea to deal with.Fortunely,Medea determin to help her lover and she kill the Jason's uncle by a wrong way.Although Medea make something wrong, the ending of this story is not bad.The story show the we never give up for everything that you want to do. Do not be afraid of anything that prevent you from doing your things.
ReplyDeleteI feel as if it opens up the mind of a student, to see things differently. Obviously Gatto has had some experience teaching kids, and feels some sort of remorse for it. I think it's difficult for him to accept the rules/laws/regulations schools have brought on to society. For instance, Gatto seems to think that kids have a limited freedom and find it hard to think freely, which is ABSOLUTELY true in most cases. However, he can't completely blame it on the school system and the way society is sculpting it's youth. You can still be a good, responsible and inspiring teacher whilst following the rules.
ReplyDeleteJames Quan,
ReplyDeleteThis story is about a greek hero, named Jason. His father's kingdom was taken over by his uncle, and after he turned back, he made a deal with his uncle to get the golden Fleece for his uncle and he get his kindom back. He bravely accpet this. The journey is full of difficulty, and gods made the princess Medea fell in love with Jason, because of this, he easily got the golden fleece, and got his kingdom back.
They got married after all of these. IT's a very nice story, but maybe good story never end up nicely, Jason betrayed Medea, and this made her very angry. She killed the bride and gone without love.
The whole story is full of the desire of power, first, is the betray of Jason's uncle, then is the mission for Jason. All of these are because of the desire in people's mind, although someone may be a good person forever, this is only because he nicely controled him or herself. I kind of like this story because it showed the real world, although maybe just showed some kind of people, but this is also a reflection of our life, there are people like Jason's uncel and king AEetes, and also have people like Jason, and people like Medea. There are true love in our life of course, but will it change after time goes on? The answer is maybe, because it depends on individuals.
In the short story seven lessons, i agree with what he is saying. he talks about the way children feel and act when they are in school. everything he talked about in the story was true. he agrees with the students but at the same time he is also talking about the disadvantages of sending your child to a school that really has no intentions on bettering your childs education and academics. he speaks about school being a place that is jsut basically setting the student up for flipping burgers in a fast food restaurant. he also sees no point in when the student has to ask to go to the bathroom.
ReplyDeleteThe Golden Fleece brought an awareness to it's readers that commitment can reward one with his/her wants. In a way, the story also taught that love is blind. Medea fell in love with Jason, but was oblivious to the fact that he was just using her to get the fleece. Then of course Jason got what he wanted and was crowned king, however like every other female character in mythology, Medea resorted to revenge. I feel like this story just reinforced the idea of men being self-centered, but also reinforced the idea of women being blinded by love and oblivious.

ReplyDeleteThe Iliad (or Song of Ilion) is an epic poem in dactylic hexameters, traditionally attributed to Homer. Set in the Trojan War, the ten-year siege of Ilium by a coalition of Greek states, it tells of the battles and events during the weeks of a quarrel between King Agamemnon and the warrior Achilles. Although the story covers only a few weeks in the final year of the war, the Iliad mentions or alludes to many of the Greek legends about the siege.
ReplyDeleteAlong with the Odyssey, also attributed to Homer, the Iliad is among the oldest extant works of Western literature, and its written version is usually dated to around the eighth century BC.[1] The Iliad contains over 25,000 lines, and is written in a literary amalgam of several Greek dialects

ReplyDeleteThe play called lliad is pretty funny and the characteristic is very different from the mythology. It is a great poem, but also one which presents a number of difficulties for the first-time reader. This page is designed to be a jumping-off point to help me overcome some of the common difficulties readers have with Homer's Iliad, and also to provide tools to enhance and deepen your reading of the poem.
The Iliad and Odyssey were composed in a culture in which art played a central role. The poems themselves refer to artistic productions, most famously the elaborately decorated shield which Hephaistos makes for Achilles in Iliad. In addition, many of the heroes and episodes described in the Homeric poems became popular subjects for sculpture and painting. Here is a chart listing the major periods of Greek art, along with examples from two of the periods and descriptions of some of the major features as they relate to the Homeric poems. More examples will be added as they become available.
James Quan,
