  1. I picked the poem by Langston Hughes named Harlem. This poem has a rhyme scheme like "does it dry up like a raisin in the son"
and is very descriptive about a dream. The tone i think he was trying to give was a type that shows you that a dream in harlem could be shattered. He also used simile's to describe and give examples of what it was he was trying to tell us about in the poem.

  2. ı chose the poem ''we wear the mask '' by Paul Laurence Dunbar. I chose this poem because i really feel a conection with the poem. Most people hides thier grief and put their show face on. They smile and talk like nothing bad happend to them to make them feel misreabel inside. We want to show that masked face all the time to hide our weaknesses. The first parts goes like a-a-b-b-a. We get an image when he says ''with torn and bleeding hearts''.

  3. I chose the poem "We Wear the Mask" by Paul Laurence Dunbar. It is kind of complaining of the world. Mask is just representing a tool which is used to conceal real thoughts of people. It is also a way to protect people in communicating with each other. Hypocritical people make the world illusory. Just like what the poem says, we may smile while crying under the skin.

After I read this poem it give the feeling of pessimism.By the way, the poem “ What happens to a dream deferred?” which try to question the government what they could to do to people and socity when dream delay. While, the poem shows some kinds of images of decay and waste representing the dream fate. The first image propose that the dream like a raisin. It tell us the dream may lain it too long. The second image was state that the dream like rotten meat which tell us that the dream may be give up for a long time. The third image was syrupy sweet which tell the dreamer put many decoration which is worthless and deferred. The forth image shows the dream like a heavy load. It tell us
the dream didn’t come ture since it was too big or heavy. Finally, the dreamer give it a huge expectation and becomes a negative, so it explode at last.

  5. "Harlem" by Langston Hughes is solely expressing the different paths that most dreams may take. The theme of this poem is considered to be depression and unhopeful. Most of the diction that Langston used to show the theme of depression comes from the words "dry, deferred, fester, and rotten." Langston decided not to use a matching rhyme scheme so the pattern goes straight from (a to z). His imagery and symbolism is very clever, through the poem he chooses to have a dream ever-changing form.

  6. In the poem "Saddie and Maud",the author, Gwendolyn Brooks, uses diction such as "scraped" and "livingist" to show productive and efficient Sadie's life was. Brooks also uses the phrase "nearly died of shame" to show the unsuccessful life of Maud, who went to college. Repetition of the word "fine-tooth comb" shows how Sadie got the most out her life. Things such as diction, repeition, and the rythm of this poem give it it's comparitive tone.

  7. I read the poem We Wear the Mask written by Paul Laurence Dunbar. The author uses a distressed tone to show how people hide their true face. There are a lot of symbolisms. Masks symbolizes the lies and eyes, cheek symbolizes the truth. The poem describe that how people can not understand “our” sadness because they cannot see the truth behind the mask. The diction here like “over wise, tears, sigh, tortured” all express the disappointed emotion. There are three paragraphs in this poem and each has a sentence “we wear the mask.” They are same but have different meanings. The first one express that they didn’t grins sincere fully. The second one expresses the complains of the mask. The third one is the most emotional one. It shows all his disappointed.

  8. “We Wear the Mask” is a poem written about the human beings who hide their feelings on purpose and wear the mask to disguise their pain. It is about the oppressed people who are forced to hide their frustrations in order to protect themselves. At the beginning of the poem, the words Dunbar choose like “grin, lie, guile, tore, and bleeding” portray a deceitful picture. It seems that the mask is not a good thing but why should people wear it? Why “let them only see us while we wear the task”? Dunbar seems make an explanation in the following lines. “We sing, but on the clay is vile” people hope to be honest; nevertheless, they have to hide their feelings and pains to make their life easier and suffer a little. As far as I am concerned, the mask symbolizes both harm and protection to people. The tone of the poem is gray.
