This whole poem is just like a flimsy sigh, with author's blue mood. The mask here is like human's camouflage, distrust, and hiding. The reason why we should wear the mask is "let them only see us, while we wear the mask." We are afraid of hurting ourselves. We want to sing for those who save their own lives, but the reality forces us to get rid of it. At the end of this poem, being a little bit boiling, the author calls for us to be true self, if we can let ourselves free. In this poem, lies, eyes, subtleties, sighs, cries, arise, otherwise are in great order of rhyme, as well as guile, while, and mile.
The poem” What Happens to a dram deferred?” illustrates different aspects and situations about why dreams delayed. “ Dry” means the dreamer might not give his/her dream any more courage and hope to realize. “Fester” shows us that the dream deferred because it might has been hurt and destroyed before. “Stink” like rotten meat tells us that the dream might be given up long time before. However, the simile” syrupy sweet” let us know that the dreamer wrapped his/her dream with too many sumptuous and worthless decorations which did nothing to reach the dream. Then the author writes that the dream didn’t come true may also because it was too heavy. Or the dreamer gave so many expectations that out of his/her dream’s capacity, so, it exploded at last.
The poem ‘We Wear the Mask” is about the fakeness of people when facing others and even facing themselves. Just like wearing ‘the mask’, people looks like smiling and talks pleasantly, but under the mask, there might be right the opposite thing to what is showing on ‘the mask’. Thus, this ‘mask’ is full of grins and lies, since it cheats and pretends. Because of wearing ‘the mask’, people have the feeling of covering and hiding, the mask covers the cheeks and hides their moods. They talk in excellent words but violate their true heart. While smiling the heart might just bleed. For this ‘mask’, this hiding and cheating, people paid too much, and still paying. Tears, blood, sigh…For hiding and cheating for so long, people beray their soul and true heart. For the whole poem, the rhyme is on the last word on every line. The author uses some ancient diction to emphasize the tune of grief and indignation. ‘The mask’ is a very symbolic thing which represents the dishonesty of people during daily life to each other and also the betray of people to their own soul and heart.
In the poem "We Wear The Mask" about people who want hide their unhappiness. They are put on happy mask and they do not want to oher people think they are unhappy. I think this poem symbol is slaves because in the past white people used them and slaves tried to hide their tears and unhappienes. You can understand it in this lines : We wear the mask that grins and lies, It hides our cheeks and shades our eyes. They follow and act like the white mans beause of their shameless. The ryhtm of poem is a,a,b,b,a.
In the poem "We Wear The Mask", it talks about a group of people hiding their true identities to show the world their "fake" sides. To me it sounds as if this poem is written by a slave because of the word TORTURED that was used. It talks about how they have to fake that their happy to the world just so people dont bother them about it. It also sounds as if it is coming from a slave because of the line "Beneath our feet, and the long mile". This sounds as if the person is a slave and has been walking for a while for freedom, but is too petrified from the experiences that they went through. - JESUS COLON
I chose the poem, "we wear the Mask", I think it's about how people in society, whether there happy in there current situation , or not, they hide themselves , behind a mask so the world on the outside cant't see there emotional pain on the inside. Expecally when it says "with torn and bleeding hearts we smile." I think the mask is symbolism, for image we see about people, that we see the image there prejecting, but we don't see whats inside , because they dont want us to.
The poem, "We Wear The Mask" is about the fake of human's heart. The whole poem is sad, the rhythm of this poem is sad, and the symbol in this poem is the "mask". The "ies" in this poem is for rhyme. The symbol "mask" in this poem emphasized the fake of our life, we pretend to be happy in front of others, and we lie to others in order to get what we want. People is complicated, in this poem, it just emphasized this point. The last paragraph, the author said we need fake in our world in order to keep our life going well, also for all the others do this at the same time. So, "we wear masks!'
The poem "Harlem" is a short but rhythmic poem. 3rd and 5th, 6th and 8th, 11th and 12th lines rhyme. I personally liked this poem because the way it described about a dream is good. The description for the dream in the poem is easy to understand but still it has a deep meaning. It talks about a dream from Harlem and tells what happens to a dream in harlem. The poem is describing the poem if it disappears or rotteten in our life. It symbolizes dreams about black-american who live in Harlem and describes the reality. It tells that most of dreams in harlem basically fail or unachievable.
The poem "We Wear the Mask” symbolizes the effect the society, and other's point of view have on people. The "mask" is a cover of ourselves, such as in this case the lies, pretending to be happy when they are really sad just to make other's think something that is not true. People tend to show other person than they truly are just to gain acceptance of society. This poem has a sad and dissapointed tone and mood, this in consideration to fake and phony people which rather be someone else. We are the ones creating this mask and we are the ones that have to live wiht it so its our choice which way to go. The mask covers unhappines, the mask covers you.
I chose "Harlem" by Langston Hughes, this poem made me think deep about our dream, even though it is a really brief poem. It illustrated several ways that will happen to our dream, if our dream deferred. Dry up, fester, stink, crust or explode, I think this five ways symbolized five different life attitude. Also, I like the rhythm of the Harlem. The poet use the questions to make the rhythm on and makes connection to readers more.
